Irrigation renewal project updates

Overview

Greener, better, and ready for the future

We're renewing the course with a modern, fully automatic irrigation system covering all 18 holes, the driving range tee and turf nurseries and practice areas and homestead surrounds, enhancing the course's quality, playability and sustainability. During construction, we’ll keep disruption to a minimum, all 18 holes will remain open for weekend competitions, and no more than three holes will be closed on weekdays.

This project will commence in April 2025 and is expected to be completed in up to 20 weeks (September 2025), subject to weather and ground conditions.

Project updates

April 2025

The project is scheduled to commence the week of 28 April 2025 and will involve the complete renewal of the golf course’s irrigation system.

The works will take place weekdays, between 7:00am and 5:00pm, excluding public holidays. A lot of preplanning has been undertaken to balance efficient delivery of the works with inconvenience to golf course users.

During the project, up to three holes will be closed each week for play, Monday to Friday, but will be re-opened for weekend competition and public use.

Digging restarted on 19 May, beginning at the creek crossing on the 5th, installing the mainline down the fairways with holes 3, 4, and 13 being the first group to be closed. The tie-in to the 8th mainline was also completed without requiring the hole to be closed, along with the spur into the 12th green. The holes were progressively reopened once the mains were installed and backfilled to minimise disturbance to golf, and trenches were left to settle and will be given a final clean-up.

Digging for the mainline started on 12 May. The pipe was laid through and across the 8th fairway, where the turf was carefully taken up and replaced. All the large pipes are now in place down to the 11th tee, and valves have been fitted. (The mainline is the main water pipe that feeds the course’s irrigation system.)

FAQ's

  • Why is the irrigation being renewed?
The original irrigation system was installed in the early 1980’s and the system has had various modifications throughout its asset life. The course is managed and maintained by council staff and they are unable to purchase parts to maintain the existing irrigation system as the products are no longer available due to its age. The new irrigation system will use improved practices and technology, leading to better water efficiency, reduced chemical use, and an overall improved condition of the course.
  • What work is being undertaken?
The construction of a new irrigation system throughout the golf course, including new pumps, and supporting infrastructure.
  • What if I have concerns following my round of golf?
Please raise them at the pro-shop and they will be forwarded on to the relevant council staff.
